Q: How do I obtain a FREE copy of my Credit Report?
A: You are allowed one free copy by law, per year.
There is a toll free telephone number to call to request a copy of your free credit report: 1-877-322-8228. You will need to provide the following information to get your free credit reports: Your Social Security number, your name and address including your previous address if you have moved in the past two years, your date of birth, as well as some other information that only you would know such as the amount of your monthly mortgage payment. (We recommend that you sign up for a monthly credit monitoring service such as www.truecredit.com and provide us with the username and password to retrieve your most current reports), this way your accounts progress can be monitored.

Q: Give me three ways to increase my Credit score?
A: 1) Challenge erroneously listed accounts with the credit bureaus, if they contain any negative or adverse credit history. Under the FCRA, (a congressional act passed in 1977), you have a right as a consumer to a fair and accurate credit report. Negative listings on your report reduce your score and can actually be the primary reasons for being declined for credit.

2) Keep your balances on revolving credit down to 30% or less. By leaving 70% of your credit available on revolving charge accounts, you are in fact demonstrating discipline in spending habits, and proving that you are responsible with the use of credit.

3) ADD Seasoned Primary Accounts to your credit file.
This is where Kastle & Hawke, Inc can assist. Boost your FICO score quickly.

Q: What are the three worst things I can do to my credit?
A: 1) Debt Counseling.
IF you want to pay up front and then again on the back end when your credit suffers than you may like this option. This is also a way for many credit card companies to disguise their collection techniques.

2) Debt Consolidation.
Any time you take out a loan or spend money on a credit card, your credit score is going to initially suffer as your Debt-to-Income ratio will have gone up along with your risk grade. Furthermore, if you are using a debt consolidation agency, this is reported to the credit agencies as if you were not able to handle your own affairs and will dramatically effect your credit worthiness. This also has a 7 to 10 year effect on your credit and does not save you any money. Additionally, many of the consolidation firms are nothing more than another way for credit card companies to disguise their attempts to collect.

3) Filing for Bankruptcy.
The fact that you filed for bankruptcy will be on your credit for 7 to 10 years and will demonstrate that you are not credit worthy. Most lenders are not compensated fully for loans that were settled through bankruptcy and therefore are very cautious about lending to anyone that has a bankruptcy on their credit report. Also, most applications for any type of credit ask if you have ever filed for bankruptcy and no doubt consider that in their decision.
